Side-by-side dysplasia and carcinoma are shown this air contrast barium enema which demonstrates an irregular structure in the lumen (the carcinoma) side-by-side with nodularity of the mucosa (the dysplasia). Patients who present with symptomatic carcinoma typically have more advanced disease and have a less than 20% 5-year survival.
