Heaped-up epithelial proliferation may form post-inflammatory pseudopolyps (PIPs) of all sizes. Seen here is an impressively large post-inflammatory pseudopolyp with papillary morphology not unlike that seen with villous colon carcinoma. PIPs, however, are not malignant. Such exuberant mucosal regeneration is typically seen during remission of UC, whereas inflammatory psuedopolyps (Figure 4) are seen during active disease.
