This H and E slide demonstrates the remission
phase of ulcerative colitis where there is a fatty proliferation within
the submucosa (this causes the thin low attenuation band seen on CT;
see below, Figure 19) and contraction of the muscularis mucosa (which
is at least partially responsible for the loss of the haustral folds
and foreshortening of the colon). |
